The purpose of the Insheim geothermal project is to produce power from a hydrothermal reservoir. The location was selected on the basis of own extensive seismic surveys.
The first deviated well verified a sufficient hot water reservoir at 3600 m depth. The first measurements confirmed temperatures suitable for power production. After the success of the first well the project was sold to PFALZWERKE. The further planning and realization of the project was passed on to BESTEC, who already were engaged with the operations.
The Rülzheim Project
At Rülzheim it is planned to tap a hydrothermal reservoir at considerable depth for a sustainable and economic production of geothermal power. It is expected to start drilling in the second half of the year 2009.
Further activities
In January 2009 HotRock conducted seismic surveys through DMT as continuation of their exploration program. For the survey of the deep subsurface reflexion seismic was applied. This geophysical method has successfully been applied for exploration of oil, gas and mineral deposits. On the basis of the seismic results further locations for geothermal projects can be identified and developed.
