HotRock has signed an agreement with the renewable energies engineering subsidiary of Pfalzwerke on a new geothermal project. BESTEC GmbH, as the general contractor, will carry out two deep drillings in over 3000 m depth and create a water circuit.
HotRock and BESTEC already cooperated successfully in the geothermal project in Insheim. There, the subsurface works have already been successfully completed, and a geothermal power plant is expected to commence operations in 2011.
The project in Rülzheim is due to begin immediately, with the same team. The drilling company will again be Jaslo Polska, with whom both partners have worked in the past. HotRock Engineering GmbH will carry out the planning and supervision.
HotRock plans to build a geothermal electricity plant with ca. 5 MW capacity. In addition, it expects to make use of the heat generated as well, as the town of Rülzheim has a heating network.
The contractual partners have already begun preparations. Managing director of HotRock Engineering GmbH, Dr. Christian Hecht, expects drilling will begin in October 2009.
HotRock owner and CEO Werner Kindermann: „We are excited about the new project and confident with our seasoned team. Based on the exploration results, we are optimistic that we will find similar or even better conditions than in Insheim.” The project in Rülzheim is due to form the cornerstone of a HotRock portfolio of power plants; further projects are in preparation.

HotRock sells HotRock Erdwärmekraftwerke Insheim to PFALZWERKE
The HotRock Group sold HotRock Erdwärmekraftwerke Insheim GmbH & Co KG to Pfalzwerke Projektbeteiligungsgesellschaft mbH on November 13, 2008. The parties agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.
HotRock succeeded in finding a water reservoir in 3,600 m depth in Insheim. First measurements confirmed that the water has a temperature of more than 155°C and is sufficient for a geothermal power plant.
A number of potential investors had expressed vivid interest in the project. HotRock decided on the local energy supplier PFALZWERKE as a strategic partner. HotRock will continue to expand its market position as a specialist in geothermics through further projects, to commence shortly among others with the PFALZWERKE affiliate BESTEC GmbH as its operative partner.
HotRock owner and CEO Werner Kindermann: „We are extremely pleased with the good results in Insheim and are looking forward to the future cooperation with PFALZWERKE. The next joint project with the successful team BESTEC and Jas?o is already in preparation.”
